Rhythm

From waves’ ebb and flow, breath’s in and exhale,
earth’s silent game of tag from day to night,
heart beat, season’s fixed changeable tale,
and in and out of sensuous sex rite,

from infectious joy of musical beat,
cyclical return of the wild to place,
return of craving babe to mother’s teat,
and pulsing thirst for war by human race,

from cicada’s sleep to starry comet
with their predestined arrhythmic cadence,
or between a galaxy’s vast orbit
and a proton’s microscopic valence,

is it a wonder it’s hard to wonder
beyond the familiar we ponder?
