Rich and Poor

While the rich may have what the poor want, means,
the poor have what the rich need, life direct.
For no doubt, poverty’s stark grind demeans,
yet truth is what survives being shipwrecked.

The restless gaze upward of the have-not,
ever seeking for oasis of green
in their bid to escape a barren lot,
makes it hard for a restful life to glean.

The complacent look of the sated have,
reckoning life as just some vast tontine
in their bid to never their wealth to halve,
makes it easy to air an air most mean.

While rich make a claim for stability,
poor labor for upward mobility.
