Subtle
Glittering dawn sunlight on grass bedewed,
an oppressive hot day’s sudden soft breeze,
a brisk winter night’s swirling snow bestrewed,
or a silver sliver on moonlit trees.
Quiver of butterfly fluttering wings,
hummingbird’s pollen seeking dancing tongue,
hunting cat’s ass wiggle before it springs,
or a stallion’s skin shiver when fly stung.
A face impassive during an uproar,
a youth’s whisper behind authority,
eyes who hide the love of who they adore,
or an artful artist’s peek at beauty.
To look for all that is small and subtle
is to fall for the wondrous actual.
