Water
In a primal genuflection, whether
with cupped hand or sensuous lip kiss,
I, just like my primitive ancestor
eons before, kneel in a thirst quench bliss
before nature’s stream. Nothing, in essence,
in multiple millennia has changed.
After countless lives and time’s vast distance
however, civilization has ranged
far and wide with humanity’s construct
of harnessing the water’s fecund flow.
Irrigation, the Roman aqueduct,
indoor plumbing, and electric hydro,
all have transformed a simple need to drink
to timeless genius in a timeless blink.
